The Bard’s Brawls The Bard's Brawls takes an in-depth look at several of William Shakespeare's greatest plays (including Romeo and Juliet, Hamlet and MacBeth) through their famous fight scenes. Normand Beauregard, resident fight master for The Gamm Theatre, teams up with his brother Jim Beauregard, assistant professor of theatre and dance and technical director of the Center for the Performing Arts at Dean College, for this series of lecture-demonstrations. Demonstrating the illusion of punches, bashes, slashes and, of course, swashbuckling swordplay, these professional fight masters share the tricks of the trade to surviving all that violence without a scratch! These action-packed matinee performances for middle- and high-school students, is both uniquely educational and highly entertaining! (approx. 90 mins.)

Normand Beauregard
Norm has worked with The Gamm Theatre for over 10 years as both resident fight master and an actor. His most recent credits include Mauritius by Theresa Rebeck, and Shakespeare’s Much Ado About Nothing and Romeo and Juliet. He worked as fight master for Kit Marlow at The Public Theater in New York City (dir. Brian Kulick) and fight assistant for Dracula: The Musical on Broadway. He directed fights for Trinity Rep productions of Angels in America, Part II Perestroika; The Illusion; The Return of Don Quixote; A Preface to the Alien Garden and As You Like It. Norm was the founding artistic director of the Cumberland Company for the Performing Arts, where he staged 11 seasons of epic action sequences featuring a cast of over 200. Norm has taught and choreographed fight scenes for colleges and universities throughout New England. He also works as a professional stunt coordinator for independent films.
Jim Beauregard
Jim is Assistant Professor of Theatre and Dance and Technical Director of the Center for the Performing Arts at Dean College in Franklin, Mass. Jim has served as a Co-Vice Chair for the Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival, Region I. At Dean, he has directed numerous productions, including Pirates of Penzance, The Crucible, The Three Musketeers, Much Ado About Nothing, Victims of Paradise, Scapino!, My Father Never Prepared Me For This, and The Country Wife. Jim is founder and director of Dean College Summer Outdoor Theatre. Jim toured for many seasons with the Cumberland Company for the Performing Arts teaching master classes in stage combat and also as a performer. He is a founding member of New England Fight Directors. In addition, Jim has served as Associate Artistic Director and a principal performer at The Medieval Manor theater-restaurant, Boston’s longest-running show. |
