Founded in 1984, The Gamm is proud to tell stories that entertain, provoke, and engage seriously with the most important issues of our time. The Gamm further serves the public with educational programming that enriches the cultural and civic life of our community. The Gamm is a regionally recognized, award-winning theater and a proud member of New England Area Theatre (NEAT), a bargaining unit of the Actors’ Equity Association.
OUR HISTORY
Now in its 37th season, The Gamm Theatre is one of the region’s premier professional theaters and a cultural asset since its founding in 1984. The Gamm is a destination for critically acclaimed productions, including numerous world and regional premieres. It is the recipient of several Elliot Norton Awards from the Boston Theater Critics Association, among other professional recognitions. Under the leadership of Artistic Director Tony Estrella and Managing Director Amy Gravell, The Gamm brings world-class theater to audiences in Southern New England, including Rhode Island, Connecticut, Greater Boston, and beyond. Drawing on the talent of local and visiting artists, we present an eclectic season of exciting new works and classics made to feel new — from the naturalistic to the epic. Our productions use an intimate space to engage, provoke and entertain audiences while addressing the most salient issues of our time and all time.

job opening: EDUCATION COORDINATOR
Experience and Qualifications
Successful candidates will:

Assist Director of Education to plan, implement, organize, document, and assess all programs.

Instruct elementary, middle, and high school aged students (5–18-year-olds) for in-school residencies and out-of-school time programs.

Collaborate with classroom teachers and students to develop lessons. Facilitate creation of original scripts with a variety of communities of young people.

Oversee registration and implementation for Gamm Studio adult classes and Gamm Studio Junior children’s classes, as well as attending the first class to welcome students and the final showcase.

Support The Gamm’s production department in providing pre-show visits, study-guides, and post-show talkbacks for weekday student matinees.

Manage teaching artist placements in the out-of-school time programs.

Serve as Camp Director by developing and overseeing Gamm Summer Programs for youth and teens.

Oversee the Gamm Resident Intern Program including recruitment, interviews, and progress tracking.

Assist in marketing all education initiatives and pursue other new opportunities with educational institutions, non-profit organizations, and community partners.

Develop tools, gather, and analyze data to measure impact of Gamm programs in schools.

Maintain Gamm Education Department website and schedule.

Be a collaborative relationship-builder and a passionate advocate for theater, youth, and education.

Be willing and able to work flexible hours/days reflective of the dynamic schedule of a theater which includes a variety of hours including evenings and weekends.

Be someone with initiative, creativity, and a collaborative spirit. Must have the ability to work within a fast paced, dedicated team – rolling up your sleeves must be a favored tactic.

Express a passion for theater and the Rhode Island cultural community with a genuine interest in becoming a messenger of The Gamm’s mission and vision.

Perform other related duties as required or directed.
Preferred:
-
Five or more years of experience in theatre, arts education, and/or theatre instruction;
-
BA in theater, performing arts and/or education;
-
Training and/or experience in Forum Theatre/Theatre of the Oppressed techniques;
-
Ideal candidate has excellent time management skills and significant teaching experience across a range of student populations including ages, abilities, and communication levels, and will be personable, positive, focused and organized; and
-
Public speaking and Acting/Directing experience preferred.
Compensation
Starting salary for this position is $35,000 – $40,000.
The position is full-time/exempt.
The theatre provides medical and dental Insurance, an Employee Assistance Program, and group retirement plan, free admission to Gamm studio classes, as well as paid vacation, personal, and holiday leave.
