The Gamm Theatre offers summer- and year-long internship opportunities to qualified college students and eager young professionals interested in learning more about the management side of non-for-profit professional theater, specifically assisting the education department. Interns collaborate behind the scenes with theater professionals for a hands-on experience.

Still in High School?

We offer teaching mentorship opportunities to high school students, looking to hone their skills as arts educators. Additionally, the Gamm occasionally needs high school interns to assist with data entry, postering, etc. Please send an email to Kate Hanson at expressing your interest.

I have been fortunate enough to have interned at The Gamm Theatre's summer program, GSI, for four wonderful years. It has been an experience that I will cherish for life. Not only did I have the chance to learn and grow as an artist and human being while interning at GSI, but I also got to watch some wonderful high school students grow as artists and human beings as well. Being apart of GSI is unlike any experience that you will receive anywhere else in the theatre community.

... As an intern at GSI you have an opportunity to work hands on with young talented actors, have your artistic visions respected and included throughout the production process, and the opportunity to sharpen valuable skills such as community building, script analysis, set building, creative thinking, and teaching. GSI is more then a summer program for young actors, it's an opportunity to learn, to grow, and to be respected in the theatre community for all involved.

Andrew Medeiros,

Intern 2011-2018

The GSI internship is a fun and creative way to hone your teaching skills while working with people who are just as passionate about theater and education as you are.

Frequently Asked Questions:

How many interns do you have each year?

The number changes seasonally based on need.

Are interns assigned to a specific department?

Yes, however, The Gamm is a highly collaborative environment, so you may sometimes be asked to help in another department. Occasionally we hire a "floating intern" who is assigned projects on an as-needed basis.

Are internships full-time or part-time?

This depends on the type of internship, as well as your availability.

Do you offer housing or a stipend for season-long interns?

We do not provide housing and rarely provide any financial compensation. Because interns must often supplement their theater work with paid work elsewhere, we are happy to accommodate outside work schedules within reason. Interns may attend Gamm shows and take Gamm Studio classes at little to no cost (based on availability and class space).

Are interns eligible for paid part-time positions at the theater?

Paid positions are subject to availability. Seasonal paid work may include working as a production assistant, stage managing, or selling season subscriptions. Interns are not given preference over other applicants, however.
