Honoree & Special Recognitions
In 2007 Myrth relocated the foundation to Rhode Island, where she has lived since 1974, and reestablished its mission: “to help young people develop as creative thinkers and doers, and to encourage them to make their mark on the world … by working with community partners who activate the imagination of young people and support them as they envision and define their futures."
Since 2008, the foundation has been instrumental in the development of Gamm Education. For the past five years, it has helped create and sustain the Gamm Fellowship Program for emerging artists of color, in partnership with Rhode Island’s public institutions of higher education.
An attorney, former Rhode Island state senator, and longtime community volunteer, Myrth has served on the boards of New Urban Arts, Trinity Repertory Company, the American Lung Association in Rhode Island, the Women’s Fund of Rhode Island, Amos House, Goodwill of Rhode Island, Sunrise House, and the Providence External Review Authority.
Celebrating our partners in Gamm Education with special recognition to Tolman High School, JMW School for the Arts, University of Rhode Island, Community College of Rhode Island, Rhode Island College, and The Levine Fund for Youth Access.

Honoring Myrth York & The Otto H. York Foundation
with the David Wax Award for Outstanding Commitment to the Arts
As head of the Otto H. York Foundation, Myrth York has continued the philanthropic legacy of her late father, a chemical engineer, inventor, and entrepreneur who founded the New Jersey-based Otto H. York Company. Through the company's charitable foundation, he supported groups working to improve health care, environmental research, and education.
